Refused refund faulty item without receipt

Hello, we bought an airfriyer from Tesco last August and it just stopped working, we mislaid the receipt but have the bank statement and the card it was purchased with. Tesco have refused to do anything as we do not have the receipt. Is there anything i can do? Thanks.

Do you have a clubcard?  If you have that then they should be able to trace the item as you would have got some points on to your account.  I've resorted to this a couple of times when I didn't have the receipt available.

They aren’t obligated to give you a refund after 6 months. But they do have to accept proof of purchase by other means rather than just a receipt.
Were claiming under the warranty or under your consumer rights? Did they offer you a replacement item?

Bit late now but when I buy electricals I staple the receipt to the instruction manual.

Recipts which are emailed get saved into a dedicated folder in my email a/c.

They said they can't do anything without a receipt. I registered the product with the manufacturer which is 3 years (before I lost the receipt) I have contacted them and they said the Warranty is with Tesco for the first year after purchase. I had a similar issue with a different shop and I remember them taking a code and date from my credit card statement and looking up the receipt and refunding me. A credit note etc would be fine but they offered nothing.
  • Does the warranty say anything able requiring a receipt/proof of purchase?

If not it should be honoured by whoever offered it regardless.

Whilst they cannot insist on a receipt, then can ask for proof of purchase.

The problem with a store like Tesco is that people tend to shop there quite frequently, they sell a lot of different things and people usually buy multiple items at a time - so something like a bank statement isn't very good evidence that you bought that particular item on that particular date.

Perhaps I'm making this up but I thought there was a similar thread a year or two ago where someone (perhaps @born_again or perhaps a supermarket employee?) said that it should be a simple job for the supermarket to take the date of a transaction and a card number, and to match it to their own internal accounting and stockkeeping systems to identify what was bought on that transaction.

Of course Tesco being able to do that and persuading them to do it are two different things...

I'd say possible, but not simple, and probably time consuming.

Do you have a bank statement just for the air fryer, or was it bundled in with other shopping?
