"The new April to June Energy Price Cap ... will be announced. It's predicted to rise by 5-7% (1). If the data we have for you is right, you're on a Price Capped Direct Debit tariff. If so, I'm concerned if you leave it till then to sort it, it will be too late"

Yes, I am on a Price Capped tariff which I can't leave until 50 days before, which is May (i.e it ends in July), which the club has all the details about. I'm unclear what I'm meant to do about this?

If you are on flexible Octopus you do not have to wait until (49) days til you can leave it there are no penalties except your standing charge will likely increased as they have done every 3 months on the price cap change rates since you last renewed on flexible.

None of the Price Capped tariffs have exit fees/ do not have to wait until (49) days till you can leave.
  • I'm also confused by the energy club email and could do with some advice - not sure if I'm meant to start a new post or it's okay to tag onto this one.

I'm currently on Sainsbury's standard tariff which isn't fixed, I do monthly metre readings and pay £91 a month - I really like the customer service with Sainsbury's and want to stay with them, the energy club is suggesting I switch to a fixed price tariff so looking at 'my account' I see Sainsburys are offering me a 12 month fix for £103 a month, a 16 for £102.63, a 24 fix for £107 or a standard variable of £98.50 (prices effective 1st Jan).   I'm logged into my account - so how is it offering me a standard variable tariff that costs £7 a month more than my existing standard variable?????

Also the energy club email says the cost cap is due to rise 4-6%, surely if I stick to my existing tariff and it goes up by 5% I'll still only be paying £95 a month which is cheaper than all of the above???
  • This email told me "If the data we have for you is right, you're on a Price Capped Direct Debit tariff." I'm not, I'm on E.On Next Fixed 18m v16, and have been for a few weeks. Prior to that, I was on their Next Pledge tariff, which was always £50 below the Cap. I've checked, and my Club account has the up-to-date details.

I'm also bewildered.  If the USA is going for "Drill, Baby drill" won't that bring cheap energy onto world markets? Plus peace talks in Ukraine? Aren't things looking up for energy supplies?

Maybe but the period of monitoring that makes up the rise in April this year does not reflect on future it is monitored from the past 3 months where gas prices have been the highest they have been for many years.

Do you know how to work out you usage in kwh and standing charges rather than being presented with pounds and pence?

... indeed ... the data The Cheap Energy Club hold for me is correct and has been through two fixes with E.ON Next (over 12 months). I think I would have preferred If I am right, you're on a Price Capped Direct Debit tariff.

So electric SC is 176.72 and ave annual consumption is 2000 kWh, gas SC is 109.27 and ave annual consumption is 6000 kWh, why does it make a difference if its worked out in pounds or usage?
