Freehold GFF purchase

Hi,
Hoping that this is not a stupid question, but am looking at purchasing a freehold GFF, but have been told that the first floor flat is leasehold and the GFF is the freeholder. I know that in these circumstances that the freeholder is responsible for the external maintenance, but does the leaseholder have any liability with regards to paying towards the costs? The reason for asking is that the external down / waste pipes are the original cast iron and are in dire need of replacement.
Any advice would be gratefully received!

This is often the case in historic two storey house conversions.
You need to have sight of the lease to see if there is provision for billing for repairs,
Anything recent and there should be an agreement tp pay 50/50 for any and all repairs and insurance.
You could purchase the property and offer to sell the first floor flat a share of freehold, create new leases and set up a proper management arrangement1
