Contracted Out Deduction (COD)

Hi,
In my weekly state- pension calculation I have a COD of £20.95p /week I earned from an employer's or personal pension scheme for the period between 6th April 1978 and 5th April 1997. I am confused as for most of this period I was working for overseas companies and was paying Class : 2 National Insurance. I would appreciate any assistance/advice on what, if anything I should  do on this issue.

What does your full pension forecast actually show ?  The COPE amount may not actually be making any difference, it only affects your 2016 starting amount.
  • It actually shows the following:
    Pre 97additional state pension £44.21
less Contracted Out Deduction (COD) of £20.95.
    Total Payable £23.26

So you are a pre 2016 pensioner.  They obviously have you shown as being contracted out at some point.  The only way to find out is to contact HMRC for the information.  What company or private pensions do you have ?  Were you ever employed in the NHS, local government, HM Forces, or banking etc ?
  • Thanks. I understand now.
