What's going on with my Samsung Galaxy S24+ directories?

So the 24 has no memory card, unlike the S20 that I had before it & the S10 I had before that.

I've spent ages trying to get a picture on my computer but I couldn't find it. I could see it on the phone but not when I tried navigating to the folder.

I've susses it now but I'm wondering about this one ....

If I open up the phone in Explorer (internal storage) I can go to the DCIM folder which contains a Screenshots folder (for example).

OR

in that same folder that holds the DCIM folder there's a folder named "SdCardBackUp". If I go in to that then it also has a DCIM folder in which is also a Screenshots folder.

There's other 'duplicate' folders too - but sticking with Screenshots as an example, it iasn't a case of the 50 screenshots in that folder are the exact same as the 50 in that other folder, so it's all duplicated.
What it is is just different screenshots in each of the Screenshots folder.

Like I say, there's other duplicates. "Movies" is another example.

What's going on? Plus I want just 1 folder of 1 thing without causing issues with the phone.

You might have some luck asking over on the S24 subreddit.

What this means is that when you set up the phone the backup had at some point been from a phone with a memory card and had a backup of the card.

I'll second PHK. The extra folders will likely be from older phone transfers.

@PHK @RumRat thanks for that. It's what I suspected but wasn't 100% sure. I had a Googling of it & just found a load of people asking the same thing but no answer to it.

Can you confirm whether it is safe to merge folders?

For example - if I have a "movies" or "screenshots" etc etc etc folder in the SdCardBackUp DCIM folder, can I take the contents of those & put them in to the 'normal' folders within the internal storage DCIM folder ... without losing images?

Yes you can move the images.  Moving them won't make them disappear.  You can move them wherever you like.
