Thanks for the tip. But since buying a temperature controlled kettle a few years back I wouldn't want to be without one now. Less energy wasted. Less steam in the kitchen. Don't have to wait for the water to cool for certain drinks.0 -

I'd research the eBay seller, and see if they have a physical UK address/phone number. You can claim under the Consumer Rights act, but as it's over 6 months old you'd need a report showing that it had failed due to an inherent fault and not something you did. Perhaps see if a local electrician could do that? If the report shows it failed due to an inherent fault, then the seller would have to pay for the report along with a repair/replacement/partial refund (their choice).
Before getting a report, I'd tell the seller that you want to claim under the CRA and see what they say... let them know you're happy to get a report showing the fault is inherent, and then they will have to pay for the report as well as the repair, replacement or refund.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)1 -

Less energy but more money spent on the kettle for a shorter lifetime.
Also, it's not necessarily more money. You can buy cheap and expensive temperature controlled kettles just the same as you can buy cheap and expensive standard kettles.
@pinkshoes - thanks, perhaps I'll try that, although would be tough as the initial fault was not an electrical one (the second fault was but that was around the one year mark). Still, wouldn't hurt to try and to at least waste a bit of their time and patience in having to deal with my messages and requestsI always thought that what the off button was for🤷♀️🤦♀️🤣
No, that's for turning it off... Manually... Not knowing the temperature...
besides, a watched kettle never boils as they say!

Plus also good with kids wanting to make their own hot squash when older; much less risk of burning skin when the slop 70C or 60C water onto themselves (or the dogs) rather than 100C!
And as already mentioned, saves energy. And who doesn't love to save our planet??
