Have I lost my money ?

I am currently checking value of gifts for inheritance tax following sad passing of my father

Reconciling payments between us there was a payment out of my fathers account to me which I paid back via bank transfer.  This was 2 years ago and I have discovered that although it was debited from my account it did not appear at my fathers end.
Looking at payees set up I believe it was sent through to the correct bank account no and correct sort code
Is there any limitation on this being able to be investigated by the bank ?
My father was 89 and didnt check his statement at his end

It should be fine to ask your bank to trace the payment after 2 years, they'll have the necessary data for at least 6 years.

You can ask, and they may be able to help - but the Payment Services Regulations say customers have to raise any problems within 13 months of the payment being made. So you may hit a brick wall.
