EV Tax from the 1st April.

Hello hopefully someone can help us. We purchased an EV in September, when we did we were told that we would be get sent a bill Car tax on the 1st of April as part of the new 2025 EV Tax rules. We then received a letter that seem to suggest the same thing.

Reading the Martin Lewis email last week he suggested re-taxing before April so have we been told wrong about getting a Tax bill from the 1st?

You will not be sent a bill on 1st April.  You will have received a letter that says something along the lines of:

We're writing to let you know that as the registered keeper of the above electric vehicle, from April 1 2025 you will need to pay vehicle tax in the same way as existing drivers of petrol and diesel vehicles.

This vehicle tax charge will apply to all new and existing electric cars, vans and motorcycles. You do not need to do anything now. When the time comes to tax your electric vehicle (on or after April 1 2025), your vehicle tax will be calculated automatically, and you'll receive a reminder.

    So, follow Martin's advice...

I have petrol car. 2015 which is £0 tax,but from april it will move from band a to band b which will be £20 tax.
My tax is up in june, but if i tax it in march instead,it will be £0,which is what im going to do.
You only need the ref number off log book to do it early.
I know its only £20 saved but £20 is £20

My Golf TDI is £0, moving to £20.  Didnt know you could do what you're doing.  Good to know.  £20 is £20 as you say.

Paying more than enough in taxes elsewhere.
