Carers Allowance

Hello I have a question about carers allowance. My dad has pension credit and attendance allowance, my brother who lives with him has been on universal credit is now on careers allowance. I’m confused as to whether my brother still gets uc and carers allowance. I’ve a feeling he doesn’t, also does his getting carers allowance affect my dads pension credit and attendance allowance? I’ve heard that it might as part of his pension credit or attendance allowance is severe disability benefit, and this can lead to a deductible amount from these. Any advice much appreciated

Carers allowance is deducted in full from any UC entitlement. If your brother is also receiving the LCWRA element for himself with UC then he won’t be entitled to the carers element at the same time. If he’s not receiving the LCWRA element then he can claim carers element. To claim this he needs to report a change and then click caring for someone and report it through there.
Your dad would not have been entitled to Severe Disability Addition in his Pension Credit unless all the adults living with him are also claiming a qualifying disability benefit such as PIP daily living or DLA mid/high rate care or they are registered blind.1 -
In addition to what Poppy says, your brother claiming carers element and living with your father may remove the severe disability premium from your fathers Pension Credit Award, this might mean he loses Pension Credit entitlement completely.0

I have known instances where people have had an overpayment of PC as DWP have later concluded that someone was in fact claiming carers element so there should not have been a severe disability premium at all which is the thing that entitled them to PC inthe first place. So that is why I mentioned it.0
