Petition to rejoin the European pet passport scheme

The current UK pet travel schemes are very difficult to navigate and very expensive. Getting a pet passport from another European country is sometimes possible but also expensive. We could rejoin the Pet Passport scheme. Please join the petition to rejoin the scheme. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/701540

Northern Ireland is part of the UK.
So how does it have membership of this scheme, does it have a special relationship with the EU post Brexit ?
Do England, Scotland and Wales need to apply separately ?

Due to Brexit Britain is now  a  "Part II Listed" Third Country.

It is not our decision whether we can rejoin the EU Pet Passport scheme as we are no longer a member of the EU.

Ian Bond who started the petition says it is possible to rejoin the scheme. He knows his stuff and I believe he is correct. Other non EU countries are part of the scheme including Northern Ireland.
Legally anything is possible but some things are simple applications and others require the fundamental rules of the scheme to be changed. Clearly one of those is much easier to do than the other and so does influence the prospects of success.

The non-EU countries that are involved are predominantly landlocked micro countries surrounded on all sides by the EU like the Vatican City and Andora or larger countries which have a very long standing tradition of following EU standards without officially joining like Norway.

N.Ireland is a special case in many ways

There is no random third party countries on the list that are only in the pet scheme and dont have other close ties like freedom of movement

To be fair under the withdrawal sellout agreement NI is half part of the UK and half EU.

As much as I'd like to see this I can't imagine that the current government will be particularly interested.

Nope but it’s 10 seconds to sign the petition and I don’t mind supporting it. I would much prefer to have a UK passport for my pets rather than having to rely on other countries to give them a passport.

Northern Ireland is still part of the EU pet travel scheme, as well as some other EU regulations.  The Northern Ireland Protocol/ Windsor Frsamework.

UK referred to in respect of pet travel requirements  is noted to be UK less NI.  In other words GB.

When travelling to another country you are required to  follow the entry requirements for that country. Just the same as you will shortly  need an ETIAS  to travel to the Schengen area.

We donlt make the rules, they do.  UK  accepts the EU Pet Passport  for pets travelling from EU tp UK.  That is our decision to make.

"We donlt make the rules, they do"
Indeed - we were part of they until the lunacy of Brexit.

The madness of it. I had friends who lived in NI who had to make an 8 hour+ journey via Scotland rather than the much shorter drive over the border to the Republic and across the Irish sea to come to the North West and they had pet passports for their cats (who had lived in Korea).
Whatever peoples' views on Brexit were, the whole process seems poorly thought out.
Personally getting kicked out would have been a better solution than asking to leave.
May you find your sister soon Helli.

We travelled to the Republic of Ireland to get our cats pet passports. We ended up travelling to Scotland to get the ferry to Belfast and then travelling to a vet near Londonderry to get them passports. We were lucky our vet did the AHC for £140 for up to five pets. But the cost of the journey was ridiculous. Now one of our cats needs a rabies booster so we are travelling to Belgium to get her rabies vaccination and her passport updated.

The whole process adds nothIng to the purpose. It just causes ordinary people money for no benefit to anyone. The officials are really capricious so even if you have followed the rules you can get refused at the border.
