Probably silly question about Samsung TV

Hi,

I have a Samsung TV, details in photo, that was passed on to me by friends. I've been using a Google Chromecast to stream things via apps on my phone. However how can I watch normal TV on this or use apps on the TV itself? How do I set it up for that? Is that possible? I'd like to watch Netflix but have discovered the basic plan doesn't include casting which is pretty annoying. It'd also be easier to use apps on the TV rather than on my phone where the apps seem to be quite buggy. Can anyone help me out with this please?

Even if you can connect it to your home internet don't be surprised if the apps are not able to be updated, it is quite an old model.

For "normal" TV your will need to connect an external antenna.

For normal TV you need to stick an aerial into it and then run the auto-tuning in the settings, that will give you Freeview channels.

Smart TVs arent that smart to start off with and very quickly become dumb. Your better off using a FireStick, AppleTV or whatever your preferred streaming device is as TV manufacturers dont keep their apps up to date etc.

As Ayr_Rage states, it's a pretty old TV. I would suggest buying a FireTV stick for it and enjoy all the streaming services via that.

Yeah I'm going to try a fire stick as that seems to have the apps built in unlike Chromecast. Hopefully that'll do the trick!

I found it easier to use a phone (or tablet) with a Chromecast than a firestick, especially as not all of the apps I used were available on firestick at the time. The only disadvantage was that I had to ensure the phone had enough charge

And as the OP states, some apps block casting without a higher tier subscription etc.

Google has its own streamer too if you prefer to stay within their ecosystem but the Firestick is much cheaper than it, appleTV or any of the other major options

You might at least try the TV apps first.
