Recommendations for office chairs discounts

I need to replace my home office chair.
I'm thinking of going to shops such as John Lewis (others?) where I can physically try and seat on them.
Then I would like to find the same brand/model at a cheaper price, maybe online. I can spend up to £150.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Do you not have any office furniture shops near you?Life in the slow lane0

Many, I'm in London. John Lewis has a couple of items at a discounted price. I can check other shops, even if discounts are often for display products.born_again said:Do you not have any office furniture shops near you?0 -
many of John Lewis will probably be own brand so may not be available online from elsewhere.
I get office chairs from IKEA0 -
Yes, most of them are.Flugelhorn said:many of John Lewis will probably be own brand so may not be available online from elsewhere.

In general I can only say whether a chair is comfortable or not. It would be good to find out whether it is ergonomic.
It would be useful to find websites selling the brands/models after getting reliable info and try in a shop. Maybe not possible for John Lewis chairs.0 -
TBH if you get good advice from a shop and try out their stock then buy the chair from them - appreciate it might be cheaper online but maybe you should pay for the fact that you can try them out and get the advice.1

Exactly what I meant: get advice from a shop and try out their stock. But then buy the chair online if I can.
Thanks.

I've got it - a shop that also has a website? most shops will arrange delivery if that is neededcisko65 said:

No, check a model in a shop and then shop around online to see if you can find the same one at a cheaper price.Flugelhorn said:

ah that is the problem - the shops where you try things out and get advice have overheads, buy the item online and the shop will no longer be there.cisko65 said:

i have a local furniture / electrical / kitchen appliances shop - they are incredibly helpful, deliver and install when they say they will, don't stress about stairs, get sofas & appliances up to the first floor etc - marvellous people. OK maybe the cost a few quid more than AO / Currys but it is worth it - we need to keep places like this going

I bought my chair untried from Ryman, and I'm really happy with it.
The chairs in John Lewis are at the upper end of the price scale (Herman Mailer) , so if you want inexpensive and to try then IKEA is your best bet.
OP what you're proposing, i.e. going to John Lewis / a shop trying and then finding a cheaper price is known as showrooming, I understand why people do it, but I think it adversely affects shops - if everyone does it then eventually shops stop stocking chairs, since they never sell any despite loads of people trying them... And it's hard enough to find a place selling office chairs.2
