Advice on Road Tax Refund
Hi
I find myself in the position of having to tax my existing car (a 22 Plate Nissan Qashqai petrol) from 1 March until I collect my new car on 13 March. Just wondering which is the most cost effective way to do this? Should I pay 12 months/6 months/ setup a direct debit?
Has anybody gone through anything similar and could give some advice?
Cheers

12 months then get the 11 months of refund, obviously if you can afford to pay that 12 in one hit.0

As above 12 months and get 11 months back the alternatives "cost" more.
Cancel your vehicle tax and get a refund - GOV.UKYou will not get a refund for:- any credit card fees
- the 5% surcharge on some direct debit payments
- the 10% surcharge on a single 6 month payment

None on personal CCs of course, so I use a cashback CC.
Now I bet DVLA aren't on the ball enough to refund back to a credit card to reduce their fees...
I'll find out shortly as we change our car next week.0 -
It's post 2017, so flat-rate taxed, and probably not subject to the £40k list price premium.
So the year's tax is £190 if paid in one go, or £199.50 if paid by monthly DD.
The month's tax you need to pay is therefore £15.83 if paid in one go, or £16.62 if paid by monthly DD.
You may think the 79p difference worthwhile to avoid having £174.17 tied up for a month.0 -
Do they refund by cheque still? That may make the 79p worth while.0

DVLA do not have systems that hold card details... No doubt that the cost of doing so would be very expensive, as it would have to be linked into old system, a total rewrite of current system or a totally new system linked to your account. & They have a well tested & working system. Which given government history on IT projects is the main point.
