I'm looking after my mum's estate a solicitor is assisting with the forms to apply for probate but I'm the executor and sole beneficiary.Mum hasn't got a lot of debts to pay maybe a very small pension over payment to pay back, funeral expense and a small social care bill to pay off.
I'm resident in the family home that's also left to me,I've lived here all of my life.I'm going to try and get a job asap as I've been looking after mum for 8 years and have the smallest savings in my account that will only last a few months,so I'm worried about managing to pay council tax.
I've filled the forms in to Barclays to close account and have given my account details for it to be paid in to as the estate is under the amount that they can release, I will then pass it in to a Barclays saving account and leave it there.
I would be really worried about touching that money so think it's best not to.
Another thing is if I've been seen to have received that money I probably wouldn't then be able to get any support with any benefits even though after caring for 8 years I'm not feeling very good.
Life is so complicated,I hope I can get a job just to keep my finances going I haven't got a trade and my work history isn't great after all of that time caring.
Anyway the funeral is on Tuesday that will give me a little more head space to concentrate on things after that

Based on your previous threads the only thing you actually need probate for is the house. You don’t have to wait until you have probate to pay off any estate debts.
As for not having any work history, you have been doing one of the hardest jobs there is for the last 8 years, those skills are transferable to the outside world so I am sure there are opportunities out there for you.
It might be worth posting over on the benefits board to see what might be available to you in the mean time.5 -
