Wow, what a nightmare, these companies are really something else, how can they expect you to just 'wait and see' if you need to be somewhere for something?1

It's never ever worth booking with these middle men. The small savings carry too much risk and reduce your rights significantly. Always book with the airline direct.2

A good reputable travel agent, or a well established U.K. travel business, may well be able to help find a suitable deal. Businesses like Trailfinders, Netflights have been around for years and their commercial deals with airlines can provide value.
Internet shopping for ‘cheap flights’ can often however sadly take you to unknown overseas online sellers with poor service records, or one man Director type set ups registered to a back room office in Hounslow with calls answered in Asian locations.2 -
Sorry to bump this thread, but I did say I'll update here once I have a resolution.
So, as some of you had identified, this was an open and shut case for the credit card chargeback process.
I called and lodged the complaint, they promised a ticket on purchase and did not deliver on that. My bank, HSBC refunded immediately and gave them 40 days to respond. They were not able to provide any response I assume and the case was closed with the money refunded
The HSBC guy did tell me that if they did challenge this chargeback then it will enter the next phase where I will be asked to provide supporting documents and proof etc. But at this stage, nothing was required.
Hope this helps others who find themselves in my kind of situation8 -

They then have 6 years from the date of purchase to pursue via the courts as well I believe. We have seen a few cases where chargeback was done only for the supplier to make a court claim several months / years later.0
