Missing BT openreach ONT - buy own ONT?

I am moving into a new property on Friday 21st February. I have an existing Sky Full Fibre 100 account that I am moving to the new property.

The issue is that the ONT box at the new property has been removed, and although the box is still there, the power source appears to have been lost. Pictures below

BTOpenreach won't do anything until the line is activated on 21st, at which point an engineer appointment can be booked, but that will be at least several days of no internet.

I could take the power cable from the ONT at the property I am leaving, but that would just create problems for the people moving in.

Note that the ONT box that appears to have been removed is model G-010G-Q

I don't see any reason why I can't purchase my own ONT, such as this one, plug in the existing fibre cable and it will all work? It seems best to purchase model Nokia-ONT G-010G-T that appears to be backwards compatible with model G-010G-Q.

Can anyone see any flaws in this, or confirm this will work?

Thanks in advance.

When I had a dodgy ONT box, it was replaced by Openreach  and it needed to be registered.
The power source needs replacing, not the box.

I was going to say, surely you just need a 12v 0.5A power supply.

The ONT has to be configured to the network so it can be identified and controlled. The unit has its own ID (probably MAC address although any of the other numbers may be its unique network identifier) which has to be registered to activate service on that fibre, so installing one from somewhere else is unlikely work.

Just bunging volts up the box that's already there wont necessarily re-activate the connection if its been dormant for some time (although it might, so its worthwhile trying).

Check the connector as BT did use some odd sized barrel connectors on some of their stuff. Most are 5.5mm dia outer but can be 2.1, 2.5 for the inner (although my ONT and BT router has something different)

You should also be aware that leaving an optical termination kicking around the floor is likely to degrade its performance to the point that it may not be serviceable anymore. Dirt, dust and finger-jam can seriously damage the optical connector. Carefully wipe the end with a clean tissue and isopropyl alcohol before re-inserting it into the ONT - do not use any other sort of cleaner (thinners, acetone etc)
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

Thanks for the help, I looked up what I think is the connector size and have ordered one.

I will take it to the new property and hope cleaning it all and connecting it works. I'll also book an engineer as soon as the line is active, to minimise downtime if it doesn't work and replace what is likely to be compromised and aging equipment even if it does work.

If the box isn't in a great place you can buy a fibre extension cable.

Unless your line at the new property is registered (usually after the date they give you) it doesn't matter what you do as it won't work. You're better to use mobile internet until that date.

The other thing to be careful of is that BT can be very finicky about people messing around with their equipment, and you might end up coping charges as a result.

Best play it safe and wait it out.

The ONT is the property of the telecoms network (in this case, Openreach) which it clearly states on the back of the ONT. They're supposed to be left alone and not touched by anyone other than an engineer. Somehow, if you were to buy one, the telecoms network will have nothing to do with it as they don't know if what you bought is secure or compromised. All you'll do is waste your money.

All you can do is contact your ISP, be patient, use mobile Internet for the time being and let them deal with the issue as it will be between Sky and Openreach to resolve.

This won't work as the serial number of a valid ONT has to registered and associated to a specific FTTP line

I would suggest you pressure Sky to treat it as a new installation/explain that there is no ONT present.
