Yes you are entitled to to a copy of the estate accounts. I think you need professional advice regarding the your siblings refusal to distribute the estate.

... They are currently refusing to distribute the estate on the grounds that I owe the estate money that my parents gifted me during the 7 years before my mother's death, which is a nonsense. ...
Unless they have some documentary type of evidence that this was some kind of loan then yes that does appear to be 'a nonsense'.
I really do. I just can't afford to pay for it. Any ideas on where I get free and good advice. I've been bullied by the solicitor on behalf of the executors and my brother for two years. Having heart surgery soon and need this to be over before then.
I don't know how useful they will be, but in your shoes I would at least try your local branch of Citizens Advice to see what they might suggest.

Are they trying to mitigate a potential IHT liability for a gift that is not an exempt transfer, 7 year rule?

Unless there are contemporanous records that indicate it was a loan, when it was extended, what the terms were, eg interest or 0% and when it was to be repaid then I would refute any claims of it being a loan.

I would remind the executors and their solicitors that their obligation is to comply with the will and in the absence of any evidence to support the claim of a loan they should distribute the estate forthwith and that any further delay without justification will only be considered as failing to meet their duties.

Always rewarding to see when posters spend time and effort to offer constructive, non-judgmental advice that the people looking for assistance truly appreciate and recognise the responses by closing a thread down.

Perhaps the number of observations about the incoherent story were the true indicator of the situation between the OP and the "bullying and conniving" triumvirate of nasty solicitor,  the outrageous executors and the despicable brothers.

Put it down as just another family caught between 2 sides of an argument and neither really being close to the truth.

OP has deleted text from all previous threads - so the history of all this has gone.
