I understand that prize money I could win on competitions is tax free but I don't pay tax as I don't work As I'm disabled, my husband is my carer so we have a joint claim on universal credit. But would it affect my universal credit or it is ok as we don't have more than £6k savings ?

Most winnings are considered capital, if you stay below £6k then that's fine. If you happened to win a prize that included regular payments such as Win £1000 a month for 5 years, then that would be classed as unearned income and deducted from UC £ for £

As a carer your husband can earn £196 a week. On your monthly statement you can declare any additional earnings. So you would need to win more than, or have savings more than £6784. It could be on a monthly basis. UC would then take 20 pence in every £ after that thats earned. Essentially good luck if your able to win that consistently, otherwise it's a real nice way to top yours and partners income.

2. What - where did '£6874' come from for savings?!
3. UC deductions for earnings are 55p per £ (after the work allowance for people with LCW/RA or children), £ for £ for unearned income, or £4.35 per £250 or part thereof for savings over £6,000 (and below £16,000).
I was tempted to say 'thanks ChatGPT' but your post history doesn't sound like an obvious bot so I have no idea what's happening here.0 -
I'm definitely not a Bot. I asked similar questions to Hickley Job centre. It was my understanding that if I had £6000 sat in the back over the assessment period. I could then earn my carers allowance on top period month. Sorry if I ve worded it incorrectly. I ve no children. The last bit was my understanding of the deductions. Like I saw I was trying to help from a carers point of view who does competitions online.
