6 years since Tesco credit card default, am now eligible for a Tesco card?

Hi guys, had some financial struggles about 6 years 3 months ago, got a few defaults, 2 of which were with Tesco, I've ignored the debt collectors since and it hasnt gone any further whilst they seem to pass them around different debt collectors.

First off, I'm hoping they become time barred, as I haven't had any contact with them other than receiving a few letters/text messages/calls that I've not replied to.
The next question, if I took the new Tesco credit card, is this likely to cause issues with the 2 that defaulted and has been passed to debt collectors?

I very much doubt they'll take you back as a customer, all you can do is try an application.

Six yeas are to get your credit files clean that all lenders can see.
Tesco (and other lenders) can keep your personal data for much longer. Yes, this is likely to cause issues, but difficult to say how likely.

Why Tesco CC?! I think there are much better CCs (and debit cards) around that you can use in combination with your ordinary Tesco club card.

Although the default might be gone from your credit files, Tesco are likely to still retain data about your past account history. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't want to accept you as a customer again. No harm using an eligibility checker though.

That said I agree with the comments above - why specifically are you after another Tesco card? It might be worthwhile looking at the other cards you could be eligible for, as some of them offer better rewards than the Tesco one.

Wonder if the transfer to Barclays will affect what information is retained on past defaulters. Are new applications effectively to Barclays for a Tesco branded card?

ok bit of change, and i'll end up ignoring the tesco card.

looking at my credit file it was actually December 2019 so 5 years and 2 months.

only reason why i was considering they've actually come up as 90% chance on the eligibility checker, i haven't had a "proper" card come up except for vanquis, fluid and the prepaid "saving" cards.

Unlikely, they almost certainly bought all data relating to the business as part of the deal.

Which eligibility checker? One on Tesco Bank's site? One on a random third party (eg MSE) which has nothing to do with Tesco Bank and won't have access to Tesco's internal data?

    Yes it does.

This is apparently the reason why people were getting Rc105 error on the new Amazon Barclaycard app.

They were doing affordability checks on people who previously had defaulted on a Barclaycard before you could activate it

Checker was on Experian or Credit Karma, I believe.

As said in the last 6 years when I've randomly checked, nothing has come up as eligible except the credit builder cards.

But it's all fine, won't be applying anyway.
