Love Holiday Package flight cancellation

We've been sent a message this morning from Love Holidays, stating that our return flight for our package holiday in June has been cancelled. They have said that our ticket has been changed to an 'open ticket' and we have to find an alternative flight for the same value, any extra will have to be paid by us. We bought the holiday as a package deal, as in we paid for all the elements in the same transaction. I would have thought that this means it is up to them to source the alternative flight? It states on the booking that they are acting as our agent with the airline

Yes, it's up to them to source an alternative flight:
https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2018/634/regulation/11
However, they can seek to recover the price difference from you if it's more expensive, so it may be worth at least doing some research yourself, e.g. via the likes of Skyscanner....1 -
Presumably cancellation of the entire package and a full refund is an option?eskbanker said:Yes, it's up to them to source an alternative flight:

Theoretically, yes, as things stand, OP could go back to them and say that the package is no longer being provided and therefore a refund is due, if that was their preferred choice. This would normally only apply if there's a significant change to the arrangements, but if there are other flight options within 12 hours then it typically wouldn't be seen as significant if the package organiser rebooked the travellers onto those, so it would seem odd that LH have left themselves open to a cancellation with full refund if that was a possibility....TheShape said:

Surely they could just ask to be rerouted by the airline free of charge under UK261, regardless of the fact it's a package?eskbanker said:Yes, it's up to them to source an alternative flight:

I thought that the usual response from the airlines in this scenario was to direct affected passengers back to the booking agent, not that this is necessarily the legally correct position! But yes, UK261 rights with the airline ought to be more effective than those with the package organiser under the PTRs in this situation, if they can be made to stick....mdann52 said:
