    Many thanks @Annemos your feedback is eye opening.   I knew nothing about "heave"  😳  We have clay soil so this is all very relevant.

    the tree removal work is booked to start next Monday!  The arborists hadn't even raised this as a concern.  I have contacted them in writing regards this and to call me today to discuss.  I do not like the idea of making the damage any worse  as you say!  May well come back to you as you sound like you have a lot of knowledge in this aspect.  Thank you.

    Something else just occurred to me, as I walked to Sainsburys! 

    Is it possible that Trees were removed on the actual plot shortly before his home was built? Heave can take many years to occur. Could his current damage even be heave? 

    I am definitely not an expert on this... but I believe a cavity or cellular structure can be put under the foundation to cope with the Heave potential. 

    I have no idea how House Builders typically deal with this problem, when building on a plot that has recently been cleared of trees. 

    This article discusses the typical style of Heave cracking, as opposed to Subsidence cracking.
