Should we insure together or seperately?

We've booked a holiday in Cyprus for myself + husband, also my son + girlfriend. They live at different addresses. I had thought to get travel insurance for myself & dh and let son & gf get their own, to avoid having to ask gf about her personal medical history for the quote. Would this complicate things? is it better to put us all on the same policy? Would it need to be a group policy as we have 3 different addresses?

There are benefits to being on the same policy but nothing compelling. Let your son and his gf take responsibility for themselves and get the insurance policies most suitable to them.1

With a Group policy you are all covered for the events impacting each of you individually. With individual policies you would need to be much more selective of who you buy from if you would want to be able to cancel/abandon if something happened to one of you. There are some policies that will cover you if your travelling companion can no longer travel for a reason that would have been covered were they named on your policy but most will only cover if she herself is the one thats sick/ill/dead and not for her close family or if she's made redundant etc. Even what cover you do have won't include pre-existing conditions.
Family policies typically require all members to live at the same address, Group policies are generally the only option for those living at different addresses.
It's possible if you guys would carry on and your son wouldn't that you both buy couples insurance so you get the cross protection. The advantage is you would be a close family member for his policy but it leaves you exposed to if your home burnt down or such etc that you could cancel/return home but he and the g/friend wouldn't be covered.2 -
thanks for the replies. I've read on a travel site that couples insurance is only for couples that live at the same address. If thats the case it wouldnt be suitable as my son & gf dont live together. I guess group insurance would be the most sensible.0

How interlinked is your holiday - eg are you hiring one car between you and staying in a joint suite or appartment? Those might make it harder for part of the trip to continue if there was an issue for one of the 4.
Would part of the group want to continue if say one person got ill or bumped from the flight or had a family issue etc?0
