Buying bags of old watches

Options
Do local charity shops sell joblot bags of watches?
Wouldn't be something on display but the major charities do sell watches like this on their ebay auction sites.
Looking for a regular supply of old watches.

I very much doubt that any single local charity shop would ever get given enough watches to make up any job lots...
  • Hello OP

A lot of charity shops will have collections for unwanted stuff and they will be paid pennies, your best bet is to go in shops and simply ask. If you offer to put a few quid in the charity box/till then I'm sure they'll be happy to get something for the charity in exchange for "rubbish".

Having previously purchased a rather large quantity of stuff charity shops have thrown away, it's clear not all have the knowledge/time/inclination to check every single thing for value and this kind of stuff may just end up getting binned.

    Basically don't ask, don't get :)

I work in a charity shop and we get a lot of old watches.
The demand for wrist watches has gone to almost zero even though we sell the run of the mill ones for £3 or £4 including a new battery but they dont sell well as most people use a phone now.

But we have a lady who has worked for us for nearly 20 years and who is quite knowledgeable with watches and jewellery. She goes through them all and any of particular value she takes to a jeweller she knows who will value them fairly and sometimes make an offer. She then goes to a couple of dealers who give her a price for them and she sells to the highest.  She has been dealing with the same jewellers and dealers for years and works really hard to get the best price she can for the hospice.
Any broken/cheap watches are collected together and put on the charities Ebay site and sold that way.

We dont have collections for unwanted stuff and give them away for pennies as one poster suggested.
