Has anyone heard about the tax that will be on old clothes sold on vinted and ebay? i'm a single working mom, and have sold on there for a bit of pocket money for past 2 years. unsure on the tax implications, it's not a lot of money but don't want to get in trouble. thanks

There are quite a few threads on here regarding this. Here is oneThe same rules apply to all selling platforms, but nothing has changed regarding the obligation to pay tax if your turnover is sufficient and you are buying to resell. If you are selling your old clothes on, there is no tax payable and again the situation is not changing.

If you require further help, we recommend that you contact a tax adviser, HMRC or one of the tax charities where relevant. Only businesses buying to resell need to be concerned.3 -
I am still very concerned at the lack of clarity and understanding around tax in the UK. This question rumbles on and on with tons of misinformation being bandied around, as well as some downright worrying ‘advice’, I’ve no idea how to begin to address the issue though.I suspect there will be more threads in the coming months once sites like Vinted and eBay get round to taking NI numbers from anyone .I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. But, here we are, as individuals trying to give people the real information, but ultimately being about as effective as pebbles trying to stem the tide of misinformation and disinformation. (Or that's how it feels, anyway!)3 -
