Solicitor Bank Account

Options
We have a solicitor appointed to handle the estate of my late father. I am an executor, as is the solicitor and also my brother but he has chosen to have his powers reserved.
The solicitor has set up a bank account under the name of the practice to handle income, expenditure and eventual distribution of final monies.
As an executor, can I request copies of the bank statements for the account if I feel the need to do so ?

The solicitor will provide you with a full set of estate accounts detailing all the in's and out's.

I suspect the solicitor would more likely be utilising the firm's Client account for this excercise rather than setting up an entirely separate executors bank account, especially as you state the account is in the firm's name .

As Co executor you are jointly and severally responsible for the efficient administration of the estate notwithstanding delegating this to the solicitor ,so I see no problem in you being periodically copied in on the account movements.

It could be many months if not years (depending on complexity of the estate),  before the formal estate accounts prepared by the solicitor become available for you to sign off as executor so in your shoes I would certainly want to keep an eye on cash movements in the interim. it is not unknown for solicitors to make mistakes ( or worse) in the administration of estate matters.
