in Motoring
Evening all,
I have a thought that has been playing on my mind for a while and wanted to see if I was being silly or not. Apologies if this is in the wrong section, as it isn't to do with motoring money saving (though I've saved a grand fixing my own car recently to get it through MOT by buying the parts and doing the work myself). I wasn't sure if here or the employment subforum was best, feel free to move if needed.
A little while ago I refused to drive a spare work van as there was a chip on the windscreen. This spare was given to me while my actual van was in the workshop. The chip was bang in the middle of "zone A", around 25mm in size and obscuring my vision. I couldn't use screenwash or wipe it away, so it would've been a permanent distraction. I drove on average 1000mi per week, back roads to motorways and wasn't prepared to have that in my view all that time.
My understanding is that this is an MOT failure, ie, an unroadworthy vehicle. The Gov website also states that I'd be in contravention of one of two regulations, so why, then, would I go and drive that van for work with the sort of miles I did?
I stand by my decision, but it caused a hell of a fuss and wondered what others thoughts were.
Cheers.

I'd be with you on that. The van would be insured. Get it fixed under insurance0
