Cleaning a Non-Bleach Toilet

I hope someone can help and that this is the right place to ask?

We have a bathroom suite that is about a year old and its getting very grimy, particularly the toilet because I'm having a real problem cleaning it. It had a label on it saying it had a special coating on it and to clean it you can only use mild detergent or a thin bleach if necessary. Trouble is, they don't work! What do other people use? Can anybody recommend anything? I'm embarrased to have visitors because they must think I never clean it! We also live in a hard water area which doesn't help...

Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for your suggestions furball, I think I'll try the denture tablet idea, I'll have to buy some though, we haven't got any in the house :D . I'd have to find the leaflet of the bathroom suite company (its not mentioned on the suite maybe it's 'posh!' :-) and in order to do that I'd need to have a serious declutter! :rotfl: Thanks again.
