  • So please help, my NSH work as they should however, I work all day so they are on all night to heat the flat while I am not home then are cooling off when I get home. would it not be better to get a normal wall mounted heater on normal rate and use it for about 2~3hrs when I need it?

I've asked for your post to be moved to its own thread as this thread is unrelated and also 5 years old!

What make and model are your existing storage heaters, please?

    Welcome to the forum.
Gentle suggestion - it's better to start your own thread rather than bump up a very old one.
What sort of NSHs are they, the old simple Box of Bricks ones with just two knobs, or modern High Heat Retention ones (e.g. Dimplex Quantum) with a clever menu screen?
Do you own or rent the property?

Since this forum started there have been many threads on this subject, usually generated by misleading adverts for heaters claiming magical properties.

It is an indisputable fact that ALL electrical heaters* produce the same amount of heat for the same consumption of electricity; they are 100% efficient. In domestic situations the main factor is how well they can produce that heat at a time when it is required.

You have described the main disadvantage of storage heaters for many people - i.e they 'leak' heat during the day. With regard to your specific question it would not cost much for you to experiment. Buy a simple £10 fan heater and with a power measuring monitor it is easy maths to work out the costs.

    * To pre-empt the usual comments, a Heat Pump is not an electrical heater as such but an electrical device for transfering outside heat to inside.

Electrical heaters with fans and lights are still 100% efficient as the energy consumed ends up as heat.
