Hi
I'm going to Santorini in July. Any tips on where to go, where to eat reasonably cheaply, well priced trips to go on while there, cheap car hire companies?
Wil be staying at Tamarix del Mar in Kamari if anyone else has been here?
Thanks

You must go on the Donkeys , We only had a day trip there from Crete, we loved every second.

We have been to Kamari several times and love it.
We stay at the Boat house hotel right on the front its only a 2* but its fantastic.
Thira is well worth a ful day out.
There was quiet alot of work going on in Akratri last year and it made it difficult to get round so check before you go ...thats if it's your sort of thing.
Get the water taxi round to Parissa <sp> 1/2 day
Maybe hire a car for a couple of days and take in Pyrgos ...hope you fit for the climb to the top the views of the whole island are well worth it.
If you want to go for the sunset at Oai be there early and try and get your spot it gets very very busy but we went to a restraunt to watch the sunset if you go along and see Tony at the boathouse he will tell you where it is I cant remeber the name of it but it doent get too busy and the views are just as wonderfull.
Tell Tony we will bring him some picked onions whe we come out.
They have 2 tavernas attached to the hotel and they are both fantastic.
The Love boat ( i have a thing for boats) is very good for drinks.
Perigialies <sp> is another great taverna try the Fava, crusty bread and a bottle of Boutari mmmm.
There is a fish restraunt thats all blue and white again i cant remeber the name but the guy who owns it always sits readinig his paper in the morning in there and loves to talk he speaks about 7 diffent Lanuages.
Only negative thing about Kamari is the beach its like most in Greece pebbles.
I cant wait till we go back.
Tony as also got the name of a carhire company who is really cheap ours was 60 euro for 3 daysIf you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0 -
I also went to Kamari about 10 years ago and absolutely loved it. Dont remember names of places to recommend, but everywhere was fantastic. You'll have a great time, but please give the donkeys a miss.......it will be July after all....very hot.....I dont approve of the donkeys being treated that way. I saw them being hit with a stick.:beer:0

Thanks for your info saveapenny, it'svery helpful.
Do you remember the name of the car hir firm where you paid 60 euros for 3 days? If not I'll try and find out from Tony.
What's your name? I will let him know you said hello!
Can't wait to go now, only 11 days!0 -
The blue and white resteraunt on Santorini is called 'Nicholais' (or a derivitive of!) - and its truly fab! Apparently there is also a resteraunt on the island right be the sea - where you order your food and they literally go and fish for it! we didnt actually go there though..
- we made a bit of mistake when we stayed there in tent - dont do it in the height of summer- waaaay to hot - boil in a bag!
aside from that what I can I say? Amazing sunsets every night over cocktails. Pool - sun lounger - pool - sun lounger
need I say more?!I've made my debts bite-size too depressing to look at all at once so am handling them one at a time - first up Graduate Loan £1720 paid off! only £280 to go!!!
Money to raise for tuition fees: £3000
When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on!!0 -
My Names Mandy (hubby is Kev)
Im sure if you take a jar of picked onions with you he will tell you ANYTHING!!!! ...LOL
Sorry I cant remember the name of the company I will ask hubby later if he knows. If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0 -
Don't bother with Oia for the sunset you can see it just as well from Akrotiri without the crowds.
God's garden is a good restaurant in Perissa. Up the same road as the waterpark.
Thira and the view are stunning, but I prefer Imerovigli which is just north of Thira.
The ruins at Akrotiri are a bit dissappointing and there is far less open to the public now than there was 20 years ago.
Visit the volcano.
The open air cinema in Kamari.
The 24 hour bakery in Perissa sells lovely food.
Take the cable car instead of the donkeys.
Have a great time. :beer:0 -
