Used car warranty

I bought a used car in Aug '24 for £13k.  Last week (Jan 25) i took it to the dealership for a main service costing £565 the result being there is a recommendation that I change asap the 'wet belt' at a cost of £630.  I can't afford this so have turned my attention to seeing if who I bought the car off with a full 12mth warranty.  The car had it's service history and in January '24 it had an advisory to change the cambelt as it was swollen and cracking.  Therefore, should the garage that sold it to me not have changed it before they sold it on - i'm fuming because i've been driving it round all this time at risk of it breaking at any second and damaging the engine?

Also, when the service was done in Jan '24 it was still under warranty when it was noted the belt was 'swollen and cracked', accepted that it has now expired but at that time it had done 42,407 miles so does anyone know whether Vauxhall could be asked to replace the belt as it's not lasted as long as it reasonable should be expected to?   I daren't drive the thing now so it's really caused me a headache.  Thanks

    How old is the vehicle?

What is the recommended interval for a wet belt change, both in time and mileage?

How and when did you find out about the Jan 24 service and the advisory about the deteriorating wet belt?

Age / Mileage and service history would help. I wonder how they examined a cam belt not usually done.

It's a 70 plate apparently registered in Jan 21.  I only found about the 24 service history the other day when i dug it out after being told it needed replacing.  Mileage is now 44,700miles.

It's a Vauxhall Grandland, I'm guessing it must be visible to the eye (the cam and wetbelts are one and the same?).  I've done the customary google search and it seems to me that there is a known problem with these wetbelts and as Vauxhall first identified it when it was still under warranty i'm hoping they may fix it free even tho it's now expired.

If you have just "dug it out" does that mean you had the opportunity to see it before you purchased the vehicle?

Did you buy from a Vauxhall dealer?

If so, then it's time to challenge them and see if you can get it changed for free.

I bought it from a large, local dealership that's not Vauxhall.  I wasn't offered the chance to see the service history but also I didn't request to see it.  Rightly or wrongly trusting the seller that the car was 'fit for purpose'.  It now appears that it wasn't and could also be deemed as dangerous if it should snap when i'm doing 70 on a motorway?  I've emailed Vauxhall and the local dealer, neither have replied so i'll see what tomorrow brings.

Garage I have bought it off have said 'that although the wet belt is not actually covered by the extended warranty he is willing for us to undertake replacing it for you here at no cost and that if I drop the car off for the weekend it will be replaced'.   I guess this is a roundabout way of accepting liability.

Not necessarily, they may just consider it easier to spend what for them might be £200 to avoid the cost of a lengthy dispute.  And who cares, as long as you get it changed?
