Old TSB shares

I have found old TSB shares (1987 & 1989). I have checked with the registrar that the certificates are still valid and they are.   My question is - where can I find out what the share price was on the dates on the certificates. Trying to track it down on the internet is frustrating as it gets confused with the current company. Does anyone know of a website where the old historic data might be?

Hi, this old forum comment might help - do the dates match your certificates?

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/65632253/#Comment_65632253

"Floated on 29 Sep 1986, initially 50p paid, with the second instalment of 50p paid on 1 Oct 1987. The 50p-paid shares jumped to 85.5p immediately. When the second instalment was paid, they were at 141p.

Then there was bonus of 1/10 if you had held your shares since issue. This was issued on 2 Oct 1989, at which point the shares were 115.5p, you having say 110 shares for which you had paid £100."

I also saw mention of some free shares being issued to qualifying employees and loyalty bonus shares:

I don't understand how share certificates from that far back can still be deemed as valid when the old bank was acquired by Lloyds and then later spun out as a new entity that was listed before being acquired again?

Edit: are you perhaps saying that the registrar says that your old TSB share certificates are recognised as ownership of a stake in Lloyds Banking Group?

That's what I presumed - ie they were looking to establish the cost of their revised holding based on the cost of the original holding perhaps to determine if there had been a capital gain/loss?

An old copy of the FT or Telegraph? Perhaps you can find them via an archive? Once companies are delisted they tend to get memory holed and it's even tougher when looking for pre-internet era data.

It seems counterintuitive but it was structured as a reverse takeover i.e. technically TSB bought Lloyds so, assuming there were no subsequent share splits or other types of restructuring in the interim, they could actually be valid certificates for shares in Lloyds Banking Group and it would be Lloyds share certificates of the same vintage that would be invalid.

    1.
"valid" as ownership of what? of the current Lloyds Banking Group?
(as TSB was the continuing owner in the TSB-Lloyds 'merger' in 1995, with the then-existing Lloyds Bank being de-listed from stock exchange,
i.e. 'TSB Group' was the parent company, and then it was re-named 'Lloyds TSB Group' in 1995).

A key test might be, have they been paying you dividends all this time / what has happened to the dividend payments ?

    2.
re. historic share prices, if the Registrar has not changed over the years, do they not have records ?

p.s. this might be of use
