I WANNA SCREAM about internet where I live

I have been driven MAD with hatred of this STUPID place where I live and MAD with jealousy about all the options all you English people have.

I have been getting 56k internet access for 1p/min. Pretty reasonable, coudn't really moan too much. But they are shutting down. My only options now are;
Cable & Wireless Broadband (512mb at £27 per month which I CANNOT AFFORD),
Cable and Wireless PAYG - 2p peak 1p off peak which normally connects at 20k and is barely useable, or;
Guernsey.net PAYG which is £9.99 per month *PLUS* 1 pence per minute.

I cannot get broadband at UK Prices and I cannot use any UK 56k "fixed fee per month" type ISPs. I dont think I can use any of the UK 56k PAYG, all because Cable & Wireless have put an extra charge on any numbers to ISPs, even free phone numbers :mad:

Here in Guernsey it is a case of 1 company setting up a monopoly and SCREWING US FOR EVERY PENNY WE HAVE. :mad:

Must be some benefits of living in Guernsey though - otherwise you'd be on the first plane/boat/hovercraft :beer:

sorry that made me laugh - doesn't sound so good though for internet access, dig a tunnel to England and lay your own cables....second thoughts....swim for it......

I can imagine how frustrating it can be for limited internet access. Mind you I would give up my internet to live in Guernsey any day. I hate the everyday stresses that come with living in a large town. I suppose it swings and bouts, I mean living in towns and cities you get the problems of noise, traffic etc. Living in a small community you don't get as much but you have poor communications, tv etc.

There are some people in this world who could never afford a computer, let alone the internet.

There are also people out there who have no home to live in and are losing their lives as we speak.

Think yourself lucky you aren't one of them and get a reality check. Move if it annoys you that much. Which you so far haven't done so it can't be that much of an issue.

I understand what you are getting at but .... you have access to the internet (obviously). If someone suddenly took it away from you and offered an alternative that cost considerably more, I bet you would be complaining!!

Guernsey is a lovely place to live in some ways but there are sufficient bad sides that I have spent a LOT of time considering moving to England. But all my friends and family are here, so I finally bought a house here, and now I'm stuck!!

Anyway, England is so big (and, to me, kind of strange!) that I was never able to figure out where I would move TOO!!!!! How do you decide? The place is so big!
