I always prefer Royal Mail as their list of exempted items is nowhere near as long as most couriers. A medium parcel would be £9.75 special delivery.
Obviously avoid signed for and standard parcels as the compensation limits are too low, and for that value you don't need a signature.

As we're on a money saving site, so nothing against RM, if you go to parcel2go.com there are a lot of options for under 1kg. From the cheap, and not necessarily cheerful to next day delivery. Be wary of collection charges but there are drop off options and various services. I tend to use UPS but they collect from me and, as with all delivery services, have some who don't like them.P2G offer RM services too so gives you a chance to compare..2
