Rhodes private guide and day trips

My husband and I are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this year and have decided to leave our children at home (don't worry, they're old enough to look after themselves!) and have our first short break without them.  We haven't flown or had a foreign holiday since our honeymoon in 2000 so its quite daunting for us!!

We have chosen to go to Theologos, Rhodes for five days.  It will be visiting in July so we know it will be hot  o

If anyone has any advice, money saving tips or anything else, we'd really appreciate it! 3

Thought this post looked familiar.  Have you decided against Marrakech?

If you are going to Rhodes, I'd recommend a day trip to Lindos.  The climb to the Acropolis might be a slog in the heat of July (I visited in November) but it's very nice up there.  The beach was nice too.  Again, your experience will differ due to the difference in month of travel.

Rhodes Town was also very nice for a day visit including a visit to the Acropolis and the ancient Stadium.

You'll be well placed to visit Kameiros which I didn't visit but wish I had.  I can't personally recommend as I haven't been there.

A day trip to the island of Halki (Chalki) is a lovely experience. We've done it the other way round, stayed on the island and done a day trip to Rhodes. There are booths around the marina in Rhodes Old Town where you can book the trip.

The ancient city of Kamerios is well worth a visit.

Rhodes town is lovely, Grand Masters Palace and if you can get into the knights hospital as the tourist leave before is closes is very quiet and peaceful.

Acropolis at Lindos is nice, take some shade and water ..

I wasn’t impressed with butterfly valley and in June was a tough one.

Yes we have decided that temperatures up to about 48c in Marrakech was a bit too hot for us in July!  Thank you for your tips though. We'll certainly look into those.

Although I like to see butterflys at a distance, I don't like them flitting about me so I think we'll avoid that!  Thank you for your other tips though. Will certainly look into those.

That sounds like a great trip out.  We were looking at potentially booking trips from the UK but if can book locally, that may be better for us.

This sounds like the kind of question that posting on the relevant board of Tripadvisor will get you more answers.

The Grand Masters Palace is an impressive building, there are a lot of marble floors that appear to have been brought from other places and relaid in the Palace, but the information boards are quite sparse, and it's difficult to find your way up to the first floor where you start looking around. There's a tiny brown wooden arrow on a post on the left hand side behind the ticket office. They could make a lot more of the building IMO. The information about the knights etc was quite interesting, right at the end.

We were sold a ticket that also allowed entrance to the Archelogical Museum a bit further down the hill. We bought the ticket, then nearly didn't bother going in, but was so glad we did. It was very quiet, hardly any visitors so you could get a really good look, and the displays of old pots were absolutely amazing. Mainly cremation urns, 2,500 years old beautifully decorated and so many of them intact. I'm not really into that sort of thing but found it fascinating. I'd definitely visit again. An overlooked gem in my opinion.
