Can you get current account switching bonus if you have a joint account already

Options
I have successfully switched a current account in my name and a current account in my wife's name each to a first direct account and we both got a £175 switching bonus each.
Now we each have the money we are looking to switch both accounts again.
Santander and nationwide seem like good next options. However we have a joint account already with each of these.
Will this affect our individual account switching bonus?
Or the fact they are in joint names not affect it as we'll be having accounts in individual names?
Thanks

Unless the terms exclude existing account holders (or unless you've already had switches from them and existing switchers are excluded) then having a joint account already is not a problem.

Check the actual terms of the offers, it's the only way to be sure!

Edited to add:  And bear in mind that Nwide and Santander both need DDs on the switched account. I just skimmed through your thread from January about your switch to FD and see you relied on having SOs for that. Those won't do for Santander's or Nwide's switching offers.  The terms of the offers are the details you need!

Yes thanks I was aware about the DDs. Will set those up. Was more concerned that having a joint account with then counted as an existing customer. Thanks

Nationwide let you have both a joint account and a single account. Even if you got a switching bonus for your nationwide joint account they will also let you get one for a single account. I think they're the only bank who are that generous about the switch bonuses though.

Brilliant, I'll give that a go. Then Santander later.  Thanks

When you begin to apply for a current account within the Nationwide app, it shows the below t&c’s.
As my wife and I have had the switch bonus on sole accounts, we may not qualify for it on s joint account.

    Further to my above message.

In the general t&c’s on the Nationwide website, it contradicts the above, as it says you can qualify on both a sole snd joint account.

So does that mean I can switch as me, as my wife and also as a joint?

Each offer is different so it helps to read the terms. Sometimes just having an account will exclude you, but not always.

Typically for switching you are best off having each of the joint account holders do a sole switch instead. This way you get 2x bonuses instead of only 1x for switching a joint account. Nationwide is the rare exceptions to this as they also allow a joint switch to get another incentive.
