Query re notification from Santander reactivating debit card in Google Pay

I have a currently (and for some time) frozen Debit Card from Santander, which has never been added to my Google wallet.

I've just received a notification purportedly from Santander that they have '...reactivated Google Pay on your device for your card ending xxxx'

I haven't made any request for this.

Anyone else ever had this?

It's come through on the text feed that my notifications normally come through on.

I'm puzzled to say the least.

Edited to add that the card isn't showing in my Google Wallet.

    I would give them a ring. It could be an erroneous message, or it could be someone's got hold of your card details. Better safe than sorry.

    (NB: It might be Saturday night, but the fraud team are available 24/7)

    Yes.

    Just got off the phone from Santander - hats off to speedy support - used the number from within the app. Card now blocked/deleted and new one being issued.

    I'm baffled how this could have come about.

    My email address is a dedicated address for bank accounts only - the card is frozen and had been for some time. Debit Card not used for online transactions, nor is it taken out of the house.

    What would be  the point of requesting it to be added to Google Pay, knowing that the notifications will come to me?

    Or does it mean that my phone has somehow been compromised?

    Edited to add that the card is now not showing in the app so has been swiftly removed by Santander.

    I do wonder if there's a leak in Santander's systems somewhere.
    I've got a Santander current account. It came with debit card. I never used it but one afternoon I got 60+ notifications on my phone of attempted (& blocked) transactions. I froze the card through the app, phoned Santander up, they were very understanding, cancelled the card and sent me out a new one.
    The new one arrived in the post. I activated it, and that same day I started getting notifications of attempted (& blocked) transactions on the new card. I froze it through the app and haven't bothered getting a replacement.
