Loads of kindle books on Project Gutenberg. Free.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
OK She's looking at Kindles againDoes the Paperlight Signature edition (£189) have ADVERTS or not ?
If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.0 -
When you launch your Kindle you face a screen of adverts
Swipe to open it and they disappear not to be seen again until you open it next time.1 -
Came here to search this very question.
Lots of info to digest...thanks.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

All models of Kindle come with/without adverts, depending on whether your pay more for the advert free one. You can pay to "upgrade" the advert version later, if the adverts annoy you.2 -
As long as an advert does not pop up when I am reading it does not matter. Why bother paying extra just to get rid of an ad that does not actually impact once you swipe at the start?1

The wife (who is a luddite) has a kindle and is having problems1. How do you turn the device off ?instructions say : press button on bottom - but this brings up 3 options .. sleep (no OFF)2. How to delete books that amazon have suggested as they are just trials/ few pages and not suitable3. How to buy books directly from the device (how to find and select them) - she can do this from her tablet but it must be possible to do this from the kindleShe has an Amazon account - so I am guessing that she needs to sync the two devices together - somehow ?She regrets buying the device - it is too hard for her to use

If you insist on a full shutdown: hold down the power button until a screen pops up, then choose “Power Off"
On the Home screen, long-press the book you don’t want, a menu should pop up with an option to remove
Go to the Home screen, tap “Store” (sometimes labelled “Kindle Store”). Browse or search for the book, then select it and tap “Buy”.
No manual syncing is needed as long as she registered the device with her Amazon account during setup.0
