FolderFort Cloud Storage

Has anyone heard of it, used it, able to recommend it (or not)? I'm looking to purchase some cloud storage and there is a lifetime offer of a good storage capacity for a reasonable amount - suits me rather than paying every month.

I'm posting the link not to advertise, but to show you what I am looking at.

My worry is that it will work well - until it doesn't (worst case scenario the company folds, taking my IP with it). And that will leave a lifetime of work exposed.

You can get 10TB for less

All these "off brand" Cloud providers are basically the same subletters. They buy a big chunk of storage, then sublet it out.

My guess is that regardless of who you go with, when the bubble pops; it will pop for all of them regardless of who you go with. It's basically the same business model for all of them.

Hence why it's always good to have an offline backup syncing with your Cloud.

Thank you! I noted one of the reviews for the example you have given says: "This offer is a scam. After about one year, Degoo will cancel your plan, claiming that you have violated the terms of service.".

I am a low-risk kind of person but am terrified of losing my work. I've also had corrupted external drives. What would you suggest?

I would suggest one of the big names, to be honest! Barring something seismic I assume Apple, Microsoft, Google and most likely Dropbox will survive!

If it is important enough is it really worth trying to save £50 or £100 per year on an unknown name?

What sort of volume of data do you expect to have (or expect to have in the future)?

Always an unknown quantity - but its words rather than graphics so 2TB would probably be more than adequate.

I'd hoped to get away from high charges, but that's a false economy as you point out. Microsoft it is, thank you.

How much storage do you realistically need?
Many of the big providers will give you 5-20Gb for free.
I am a fan of pCloud which I have been using for nearly 9 years (lifetime subscription). Also use free storage from  Sync, google, icedrive, Mega, idrive, SHadow, box and others for secondary backups.

I've not heard of pCloud before - what makes them more secure than any of the others?

'Secure' could be read one of 2 ways - from a encryption point-of-view or from a backup point-of-view.
If we consider from the former then pCloud is probably no more secure than others, but, at extra cost they have their encrypted vault. On the other hand Sync and (I think) Ice drive use client side encryption and storage.
From the backup point-of-view again they are probably no better or worse than any one else, however with pCloud you can choose to store your data in the EU or in t the US - I use the EU.

Of the providers I use they all seem to work well, I have had very few problems, and most of those were of my own making.

For me, I started using pCloud in 2016 across multiple devices including desktops, laptops, phones and a tablet, I have switched computers a couple of times and it just seems to work.

Hi Dave, since this is a consumer related board I don't want to ask anything technical about your product.
But a question that comes up often in relation to many products is 'What is your definition of 'Lifetime'?
    Until the company croaks it.

I've had them and Polarbackup for years. I suspect that reviewer actually had something copyright or dodgy in his space!

As for other suggestions, You could just get a NAS like Synology or Qnap. Can be a bit pricey.
