Advice needed on cancelling holiday

My partner's grandad has terminal cancer. We are due to pay the rest of our holiday by 19th Feb. Her mum can no longer go and we would prefer to cancel the holiday as it will not be much of a holiday worrying about her grandad. Insurance will not cover loss of deposit until we sadly lose him. Can we move the date of the holiday and maybe cancel after we sadly lose him. Hope this makes sense
