British Gas - Problems with their Customer Service

But if a customer did not miss a payment, and agreed an arrangement to pay, and the credit agency differentiates between a missed payment and an arrangement to pay, then I think it understandable that a customer might want their credit record marked with the arrangement to pay, and not a missed payment.Hoenir said:A repayment plan is in itself an indication of financial stress. If the information that credit agencies held wasn't factual, Then it would be of no use to that buy it and use it as the basis of making commercial decisions. Be a return to the old days of higher priced products for everyone.
Whether that would change how future lenders would treat them, I don't know.
@happy_kittens123 Did you supplier tell you what was going on your credit record?

I understand this, my point here is that British Gas did not report this as a payment plan they reported it as a missed payment. While a payment plan is indeed a indication of financial stress, it would also show a commitment to pay back money without missing any payments. The marker on my credit file indicates I have missed payments not a payment planHoenir said:A repayment plan is in itself an indication of financial stress. Hi @MeteredOut looking at the letter again this morning it does look like it should have been reported as a payment arrangement not a missed payment, a letter was issued in AugustMeteredOut said:

Here is a snippet of the letter
' When you agree to a repayment plan with us, we have to share some of your account information with credit reference agencies. We need to let them know you have a payment arrangement on your credit file. This could lower your credit rating – meaning it could be harder for you to get credit. It can also lead to lenders giving you higher interest rates or stricter rules for borrowing. You can learn more about your credit file at britishgas.co.uk/privacy'
The customer service rep for BG told me on the phone that they report it as a missed payment which I would now say contradicts the letter. But I may be wrong0
