TV license letter

Just need some assistance I’ve received a letter today from TV license saying they’ve contacted me and I haven’t replied.

However, they haven’t contacted me by post of email (I’ve double checked). Could I ignore that part of the letter or should I call to inform that they haven’t contacted me for over a year. Just thinking they may not have correct details

Depends, if you don't want to speak to them ignore them.

Is it a you've told us you don't need a license but you may be using your TV illegally letter?

If so either ignore, buy a license if you need one, or if you want them to go away for a bit tick the boxes online.

I did ignore the email, well no I clicked the appropriate box on it but then couldn't be faffed with the redeclaration when my current one runs to 2026. But on receiving the letter, knowing I'll be moving soon and not wanting to leave it to my landlord, I did the redeclaration and received confirmation I don't need a license valid until 2026, as it already was! Next door received same letter today which was binned.

The language used in it really got my hackles up, lots of illegallys bandied about.

They send a lot of letters containing untruths.

Remember all those letters they sent out saying they were visiting on Christmas Day?

Don't pay attention to them but if you don't have a licence you do need to be careful what you access.

I was cutting my hedge and even my postman referred to the TV licence letter as junk mail when I asked if he'd got much mail for me.

If this is a standard letter (if it's addressed to "The Legal Occupier" for example) then you can ignore it.

If it's addressed to you personally, then they have no legal authority to demand that you respond to them, so you can ignore it.

The fact that they are saying that they have contacted you previously when they haven't is a pretty good indication that they are lying to you in various other ways.

They lie, and they aren't that competent - I'd recommend not getting drawn into it.

If you want to spot your letter as being definitively a bulk letter, then there is a list of them here:
