We have completion on our new home in a few days time.  Is getting homeowners insurance just a matter of picking our best company and getting it sorted as soon as humanly possible after completion?  Like within the hour so we are insured from dot?

Do you mean home insurance i.e. buildings and contents? Yes, when we moved in we just went on comparison site, found one that satisfied our needs and bought it. You do have to give details of the value of the contents etc, and you'll already have most of the other details. It wasn't any more difficult than car insurance.Do make sure that you are actually moved in though. We had a completion date, hired a van and it then fell through so we had to wait another week. Best get moved in and settled, open your laptop and off you go1

Thanks, we won't actually be moving in for a few months but want to be certain it's covered should anything happen prior as well as after.ButterCheese said:Do you mean home insurance i.e. buildings and contents? Most buildings insurance, particularly via the screen scrapers, can't cope with a period of inoccupation lasting "a few months." You should contact a broker for this.Petula said:
