I have just received a hefty £750 bill saying I owe the Tax man my daughter has just received one for £450, I can understand her getting a bill as she was temping for several companies and her jobs were small and plentiful so it would be hard for the tax office to keep up. But what I don't understand I was an employee in a job I have been in for three years so this was my second year of employment the tax office give me my tax code the tax office take the money from me, its their mistake if they didn't take enough not mine, I really do not understand why my tax code doesn't reflect the year ahead, I do have a small pension but that is nominal and wouldn't even come to £750. I am not expecting anyone to reply as there is no question I just don't understand why the government leave you with a big bill when they are the ones setting it up in the first place.

Do you have other income such as dividends and interest on cash deposits?
Interest will not be taxed at source but declared to HMRC by whoever pays it.
What exactly does the bill say it is for?0 -
I experienced something similar to your case; I recently received a council tax bill out of the blue for a flat I moved out of over two years ago. The kicker? They’re claiming I owe over £900 because “my name was still on the account.” The thing is, I had cleared everything before I moved out (or so I thought) and even handed over all the documents to the new tenant, who was supposed to sort the transfer. Now I’m being told I should’ve “double-checked.” To make matters worse, when I called the council to explain, they said they’d “investigate” but might still pursue recovery until it’s resolved. So now I’m stuck chasing my old landlord, the tenant, and whoever else will pick up the phone just to prove I don’t owe anything. 😩0

Suggest you post your figures here, where hopefully the issue can be clarified and stop it happening again next year.
It maybe that is a mistake by HMRC and you do not owe £750, so worth following up.
