    You will likely need DNA testing to establish parentage. That will require comparison of your DNA with that of a blood relative of your father.

    Edit to add: And any blood relatives may not be inclined to cooperate as they stand to inherit under the intestacy rules.

    It won’t be many years, before people can prove parentage by using the DNA sites. The chances of a relative of your father being on one of the main sites must be relatively high I would have thought.

    There are already quite a few surprises out there, numbers have trebled since 2020. As to the chances of a match, it depends very much on who has tested. I've one branch were a dozen have tested, only one of whom knew others had tested. Another where the only candidates are great uncle's great grandson and a 4th cousin and they don't share any DNA with each other.

    Popping a test into Ancestry could be worth it anyway. The awkward bit is if your match exposes a NPE.
