You will likely need DNA testing to establish parentage. That will require comparison of your DNA with that of a blood relative of your father.
Edit to add: And any blood relatives may not be inclined to cooperate as they stand to inherit under the intestacy rules.1 -
It won’t be many years, before people can prove parentage by using the DNA sites. There are already quite a few surprises out there, numbers have trebled since 2020. As to the chances of a match, it depends very much on who has tested. I've one branch were a dozen have tested, only one of whom knew others had tested. Another where the only candidates are great uncle's great grandson and a 4th cousin and they don't share any DNA with each other.silvercar said:

Popping a test into Ancestry could be worth it anyway. The awkward bit is if your match exposes a NPE.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
