ESA to UC migration - normal to get P45?

Options
I've been on ESA and have received the migration letter. I have applied online for UC. Is it standard practice for ESA to send me a P45 and do I have to do anything with it? Thanks

Yes they do this it's a system that sees the claim is closing  and automatically sends a P.45 thinking you are returning to employment not migrating over.  But take no notice.  I remember getting one for Incapacity benefit when I moved to ESA also when I went on a RSA course.

If your ESA claim is ending then yes, it seems logical for DWP to issue a P45 (as ESA can be taxable income).

Unless you are about to start work somewhere then there is nothing to do with it, just keep it so you have the details available in case you ever need to check anything HMRC send you (which is unlikely).

Thank you for the replies, that's reassuring. It's so confusing because I had my normal ESA payment and then an extra £68 odd the next day. Then a week later a letter arrived saying they'd paid in the £68 regarding my ESA claim. I thought the ESA would have ended now I've applied for the UC? I'm assuming it's a few days payment that they owe during the crossover.

Depending if all your ESA is all income related or contribution related with income related top up.

Any contribution related ESA becomes new Style ESA and will still be paid fortnightly but anything income related will be paid monthly by UC. Do you know what group you was in and if all your ESA was income related or contribution related with an income related entitlement?

Have you ever had the £10.00 Christmas bonus paid to you ?

Hi, my UC migration letter states it's IR ESA. I'm also in the support group for ESA. I've never had a £10 bonus.

Do UC pay your national insurance like ESA did? Now I have the P45 does that mean no one is paying it? Thanks

You will, or at least should be, credited with class 3 NI credits for as long as you are in receipt of UC.
