Hi my business has had to change premises as my old market has closed down .
Now I've moved into a new market and a new stall. But the old stall holder didn't pay the electric to British gas so they de-energised the meter.
I've sorted out the new tenancy with them and taken over the meter but they said I failed a credit check so can't have a business contract account with them.
Now they are refusing to re-energise the meter and I can't find a new supplier who will re-energise the meter Scottish power have said British gas must energised the meter and then I can switch. I phoned British gas explain that Scottish power have said with a change of tenancy no credit check is needed and they should buy law re-energise the meter but they have refused and said there policy is that if you fail a credit check then they won't re-energise the meter . So I then did what Scottish power said raise a complaint and the man was reluctant to do so at British gas and said there is no point in doing so after some persuading he eventually did but then he had a private conversation with the man dealing with the complaint while I was on hold and the other man said that it's been raised and closed with a zero hour complaint and that they will not re-energise the meter. I've looked online and it says by law they should we're do I stand and how do I get this fixed as every day is now a day's trade lost as I need electric to run my business thanks

In the meantime can you not hire a generator?
What do you expect your consumption to be?

Standard procedure: if someone applies for energy but is not credit-worthy they may be given a prepayment meter, or invited to deposit a significant sum against future consumption. Did you explore either of these options?

I'm guessing a market stall would be leased. Is there anything in the lease that mentions an electricity supply to the stall?
If you've taken over the stall does the landlord have some responsibility for ensuring power is available?Barnsley, South Yorkshire
