Good evening everyone,
Hope all is well. I recently bought a flat and in the midst of renovating my place. My solicitor commented that I have building insurance and recommend me to get a content insurance. Can I ask:
- Is there any insurance that cover damage to the neighbour if my builder or myself cause the damage? I can’t find an insurance which cover this.
- Should I get the content insurance while I am still renovating my place or should I get it after I have move into the flat upon completion of the renovation?

Martin Lewis says that contents cover is for the following: if you picked up your house and turned it upside down, everything that fell is "contents".Your builder should have liability insurance for any damages that he might cause. What damage do you think you are likely to cause to the neighbours property?2

Your buildings insurance probably includes liability cover - have a read. Builder should have liability cover for damage/injury he causes.
If you have contents, then probably wise to get contents insurance.
Might be hard to get cover if unoccupied and depending on how significant the renovations are.1 -
Thank you for the advice, this is really helpful. I think he might cause water leakage to the flat below.Northern_Wanderer said:Martin Lewis says that contents cover is for the following: if you picked up your house and turned it upside down, everything that fell is "contents".Your builder should have liability insurance for any damages that he might cause. What damage do you think you are likely to cause to the neighbours property?0
