Road Tax and PCP

I recently bought a new car from Arnold Clark using PCP.  The dealership arranged the road tax for the car which was £220, what I didn't realise at the time was the £220 was added to the overall cost and forms part of the repayment, that is I will be charged interest on the £220 for the next 4 years which adds about £80 to total payment.  When the salesman said they would get the road tax I assumed that the company was covering this.  Just wondering what I should do and are they in the wrong for doing this, if I had known I would have just paid the road tax myself.

AFAIK that's pretty standard for a new car. The maker's on-the-road price normally includes delivery(?) and the first years VED*.

Could you make an extra payment of £220 to avoid interest?

    * Edited to add: Ford's price list confirms this. Also includes registration fee and number plates.
