Travel Insurance for a £35k trip

We have booked a British Lions rugby tour to Australia for two of us at £11k each plus flights (booked independently) for £6.5k each - standard travel insurance only covers cancellation costs up to £7.5k - should we take out one insurance for the flights and another for the tour?

Given that you've paid £11K each for the tours doesn't the tour operator offer or have any advice on suitable insurance that will cover the full amount (and maybe a higher amount to include the flights)?
  • Thanks for the pointer, will check with the tour operator, just wondering where we stand insurance-wise if they go bust or if we have to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances

We’ve been on similar rugby tours and super pricy holidays - I have a worldwide policy with Saga (not sure of your age, other providers available!) but you can easily increase the cover but this entails a higher premium obviously. Try to haggle! It was invaluable when the Lions was cancelled during covid …

Fab advice, thank you - we're both over 55 so I think Saga will accept us!!!
