I've had a quote of 3k for two floor to ceiling alcove wardrobes. 

This would include:

Three drawers 
Lighting 
Clothes rails
Upper storage 
Shoe shelves 
Five shelves 

Does this sound really expensive? I've also contacted local firms and carpenters to get some quotes. Had one of 2.5k .

What I'm thinking is that Hammond's has a ten year guarantee and offer a deposit of £29 and full payment in 4 months. This means they won't be paid until the work is finished satisfactorily.

A 20% price variation doesn't seem excessive, but you need to decide what is important to you and whether the guarantee and payment spread is worth the extra.  Make sure the 10 years warranty is insurance backed.  Otherwise, if Hammonds went out of business a couple of months after the installation, the warranty ceases.

I'd buy the wardrobes from Ikea and pay a good carpenter to fit them properly so they look like fitted wardrobes.  In fact, I have and they are absolutely brilliant.  I just bought a spare carcass to use for scribing etc.  

They also have a 10 year guarantee.  

There's *nothing* special at all about Hammonds. I would never put my money with them.  I have purchased mega-expensive truly bespoke options for clients in the past and I've been around the block when it comes to quality and when it comes to both value for money and choice, Ikea beats everyone.  

The quotes you've already had, what are they providing for you? It may well be a better spec.
